War Room
How does alliance selection work?
At the end of qualification matches, teams are ranked. The top 8 ranked teams become alliance captains and take turns picking alliance partners to form 8 alliances of 3 teams each.
The Selection Process
- Round 1 (Picks 1–8): Alliance captains (ranked 1–8) each pick one team, in rank order (1st pick first, 8th pick last). Any team can be picked, including other alliance captains.
- Round 2 (Picks 9–16): Each alliance captain picks a second partner, in reverse rank order (8th pick first, 1st pick last).
Accept or Decline
- Any team picked can accept or decline the invitation.
- If a team declines, the captain must pick another team.
- If a team declines they cannot be picked by another team. (Alliance captains can still pick other teams to form their own alliance).
- If an alliance captain accepts an invitation to join another alliance, they give up their captain status. The next-highest ranked team that has not yet been picked or declined becomes the new 8th alliance captain (seed compression).
Important Notes
- The #1 ranked team always picks first.
- Teams ranked 9 and below can only be picked; they cannot initiate selections (unless there is compression).
- Once you accept an alliance, you are committed — you compete with that alliance through the entire playoff bracket.
Why/how we do war room
- We need to choose the best partners for our team!
- This is a group discussion and everyone should have input
- WE ARE DATA AND OBJECTIVE BASED. Subjectivity is bad!
Setup
- Disable team numbers - we don't want to influence/skew our decisions
- Un-group categories so we can select specific items we want
Discussion
What we do well (Strengths)
Identify our top-performing metrics using the metric names and terms from the stats app — these are the areas where we score consistently above average. Examples may include:
- High autonomous point contributions
- Consistent teleop scoring in key game elements
- Strong endgame/climb performance
- Low penalty rate
Note: Specific metrics will be updated here as stat tracking features are added to the app.
What we do not do well (Weaknesses)
Identify our lowest-performing metrics using the metric names and terms from the stats app — these are the areas where our scores are below average or inconsistent. Examples may include:
- Low scoring in a specific game element
- Inconsistent autonomous routines
- Weak or missing endgame capability
Note: Specific metrics will be updated here as stat tracking features are added to the app.
What would strengthen our alliance?
Based on our strengths and weaknesses above, determine what capabilities we want a partner to cover:
- What do we want to check for?
- These are the things we want to make sure they do.
- If they do other stuff, neat, but we don't care if they do or don't
How to read the app
- We choose what categories we want to make sure our alliance has, the app will rank each team by sum of average matches.
- The app tells us who to choose
- Only thing that matters in playoffs is points
- "Do we want our partner's ability to do this be part of their ranking?"
